l-ascorbic acid (Vitamin C)
Vitamin C is crucial for maintaining tissue health, and because it is not synthesized by the body, our only source comes from our diet. Because it is integral to so many skin functions we believe topical supplementation ensures that the skin doesn’t get neglected. This is because topical applications, as long as the antioxidants are in their fresh, non-oxidized form, will not be diverted but will target skin tissue so that collagen production and antioxidant activities can proceed normally.
Ferulic acid
This potent, ubiquitous plant antioxidant becomes more stable and effective when combined with Vitamin C. Studies show that when used in concert with Vitamin C, ferulic acid doubles photo protection, from 4 fold to 8 fold, as measured by both erythema (redness) and sunburn cell formation.
Licorice root
This powerful plant antioxidant provides anti-inflammatory benefits while it brightens and lightens your skin.

Exposure to sun, smoke, pollution, stress, and medications—and in turn, free radicals—are unfortunately accelerating the aging process. Wrinkles and hyperpigmentation are the result of this free radical damage. Free radicals are molecules with unpaired electrons that attack lipids, collagen, elastin, cell structures like fibroblasts, and even DNA.
Antioxidants, such as Vitamin C, are free radical scavengers, scooping up unpaired electrons and neutralizing them to forestall free radical cascades. Some antioxidants are vital to maintaining skin health because, in addition to acting as free radical scavengers, they also perform other crucial functions.
Vitamin C in its water-soluble form (l-ascorbic acid) is extremely effective as an antioxidant, and it also repairs past damage, lightens sun spots and stimulates collagen production. The problem with Vitamin C is that it oxidizes rapidly in liquid, becoming a prooxidant, creating free radicals rather than neutralizing them. Skin care companies have tried to resolve the l-ascorbic acid problem by replacing it with oil-soluble forms (Vitamin C-esther, ascorbyl palmitate), however studies show that these versions are much less effective than l-ascorbic acid.
MVO solves this problem by delivering Vitamin C in powder form and in capsules. This allows you to dispense the exact amount you need and ensures that it's fresh each time. To make sure you are getting effective Vitamin C in your skin care, check the label for l-ascorbic acid. If it's a Vitamin C serum, chances are you will be getting an oil soluble version of Vitamin C, rather than l-ascorbic acid. If it is indeed l-ascorbic acid, check the color of your serum. If it's yellow or orange, your Vitamin C has begun to oxidize. If it's brown or dark brown your serum contains only prooxidants and will be doing your skin more harm than good.
